FIRE TRAINING

FFPD FIRE ACADEMY

We host a comprehensive 16-week academy twice annually, specifically designed to bridge the gap between volunteer service and professional excellence. Our rigorous curriculum ensures that volunteer members operate with the same high-level readiness and tactical proficiency as our career staff.

Upon successful completion of the academy and the required examinations, members earn the following industry-standard certifications:

  • Firefighter I (FFI): Foundational skills in suppression, rescue, and equipment operation.

  • HazMat Awareness: Proficiency in identifying hazardous materials and implementing initial isolation protocols.

  • HazMat Operations: Advanced training in defensive leak control, spill containment, and site decontamination.

FIREFIGHTER TRAINING

We provide regular firefighting training to ensure our members continually enhance their skills and are prepared to handle various emergencies. A significant number of training hours are dedicated to hands-on practice and certification renewal.

WILDLAND RED CARD TRAINING

Due to Franktown qualifying as intermix, we heavily focus on Wildland Firefighting tactics and forest fuels management, ensuring our crew is prepared for the unique challenges of the wildland-urban interface. We invest training hours into rigorous field exercises and the annual Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) to maintain NWCG Red Card certification. By prioritizing hands-on experience with line construction and fire behavior analysis, we ensure our members remain qualified and ready for rapid deployment to active incidents.

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRAINING

Our Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Operations and Awareness training is used to ensure our personnel are expertly equipped to identify, contain, and mitigate chemical, biological, and radiological threats. We dedicate a substantial portion of the training hours to hands-on simulations and certification preparation or renewal, ensuring every member maintains the technical proficiency required to manage high-risk contamination scenes safely and effectively.

DRIVER OPERATOR TRAINING

We offer driver operator training and state-proctored testing to ensure our members receive the highest quality driving instruction. This training equips them to maintain safety for both the community and themselves in various driving conditions and emergencies. Our program emphasizes all the apparatuses utilized by FFPD.
