HISTORY

Founded in 1963, the Franktown Fire Protection District (FFPD) began as a dedicated group of local volunteers determined to protect their neighbors and the unique landscape of central Douglas County. What started with a single surplus truck and a hand-poured concrete garage has evolved into a premier, full-service emergency response agency.

As Franktown transitioned from a quiet agricultural crossroads to a thriving residential community, the Department's dedication and connection to the community grew right along with it. This devotion to our local heritage is beautifully reflected in our guardianship of the historic Franktown Cemetery. Established in 1870 and recognized as a Douglas County Historic Landmark, the cemetery is owned and proudly maintained by Franktown Fire, ensuring that the final resting place of our community’s founders and veterans is preserved for generations to come.

Today, Franktown Fire is a "combination" department, blending the expertise of full-time professionals with the unwavering spirit of our volunteer roots. While the technology and equipment have changed, our core mission remains the same: to provide selfless service and professional protection to the citizens and visitors of Franktown.
